In the opening ceremony, Mr. Siddharth Chatterjee, United Nations Resident Coordinator in China, and Dr. Jan Hoogmartens, Ambassador of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Belgium in China, provided background information on the conference and extended a warm welcome.
Prof. Marleen Temmerman then delivered a keynote address entitled ‘Maternal Health during COVID-19: A Global Perspective’. Prof. Wei-Hong Zhang delivered a keynote address entitled ‘Intimate partner violence during COVID-19 in China’. A panel discussion on ‘Maternal Health and Women's Rights in China’ followed.
At the closing remarks section, Mr. Siddharth Chatterjee presented a speech complimenting China's significant achievements in sexual and reproductive health, and expressing his desire that these experiences can be shared with African nations through the South-South Cooperation Assistance Fund. Dr. Jan Hoogmartens stated that the Chinese-Belgian partnership in the field of reproductive health has been fruitful over the past three decades, and he expressed hope that the two nations' exchanges and cooperation in maternal health and women's rights will be strengthened in the future.
