Sexuality education in asylum centres

ICRH insists setting up courses on sexuality and relations in a culturally competent manner, starting from a positive approach to sexual health, and implementing it in all facilities involved in hosting refugees.

ICRH endorses the initiative of Minister Francken to set up courses on sexuality and relations in asylum centres, but we insist on doing this in a culturally competent manner, starting from a positive approach to sexual health, and implementing it in all facilities involved in hosting refugees. In addition to that, it is also necessary –as required by European Directives (2013/33/EU) – to prevent unacceptable sexual (and other) behaviour and to train staff for this. Together with Sensoa, Fedasil, the Red Cross and UNHCR, ICRH has already developed a training manual, sensitization materials, codes of conducts and policy procedures. We encourage the use and implementation of these resources and we will be happy to collaborate.
