Gender gap in access to education: focus on forced and/or early marriage of girls in Kajiado district, Kenya

OBJECTIVES

To assess the magnitude of the practise of early and/or forced marriage in Kaijado District, Kenya
To acquire a deeper understanding of the consequences of the practice on the girl child’s education
To develop new innovative ideas to help alleviate the practice

ACTIVITIES

Desk study: collecting data from statistical offices, education office
In depth interviews with key persons (government representatives such as chiefs and social workers in the district)
Focus group discussions with youth (schoolgirls & boys) and their mothers

RESULTS

Documented report with facts and factors behind the practice
