HIV prevention: researching the critical success factors of peer education

OBJECTIVES
Evaluate the peer education program of the Red Cross in Rwanda
Study the personal, social, cultural, political, economic and other determinants of sexual risk behaviour among young people in Rwanda
Study the needs of young people concerning HIV prevention
Formulate recommendations for the adaptation of peer education program based on the determinants of sexual risk behaviour and the needs of the young people
Develop an adapted program based on the identified determinants and the needs of the young people
Examine the preferred prevention method of the Rwandan youth
 
METHODS
Quantitative methods: standardized questionnaires
Qualitative methods: group analysis and focus group discussions
 
ACTIVITIES
Field study in Rwanda
Training of Rwandan researchers
Study the determinants of sexual risk behaviour and the needs of the young people
Examine to what extent the existing peer education program involves the determinants of sexual risk behaviour and to what extent it answers to the needs of the young people
