City Tours

1. City Tour (Dutch): Walking in Rainbow Footsteps: Women and LGBTQ people through the centuries (4 June, 6pm) - €20

In Ghent, everyone is welcome and can feel at home, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity—but what was it like in the past? During this walk, we explore the history of women and LGBTQIA+ people through the centuries.

The walk usually starts in front of Casa Rosa vzw on Belfortstraat and lasts approximately 1.5 to 2 hours.

The Rainbow Network (Regenboognetwerk) is a structural partnership bringing together city services, civil society organisations, Ghent University, the police, Unia, Amal vzw, Casa Rosa vzw, and others. Through concrete actions, we work together to promote a positive image and greater respect for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex people in Ghent. We place the LGBTQIA+ community at the centre of our efforts and actively involve Ghent-based organisations and all residents in our shared goal of creating a tolerant city.

This city walk is organised and led by GANDANTE.

2. City Tour (Dutch): From Bathhouses to red light district (4 June, 8.00pm) - €20

The red-light district—just the name alone sparks the imagination. And indeed, this walk takes you to the Vander Doncktdoorgang, better known as the Glazen Straatje (Glass Alley).

The tour lasts approximately 1.5 to 2 hours and usually starts at Stoofstraat in Ghent.

This city walk is organised and led by GANDANTE.

3. Charlie City Tours True or False Tour (English) (4 June, 6pm or 8.15pm) - €30

Who’s the Smartest in Your Group? Find out during this fun and interactive quiz tour! On an engaging walk through the heart of Ghent, Nick—founder of Charlie Tours—shares 10 extraordinary stories about the city, from both past and present. But beware: some of these stories are true, while others are completely made up. It’s up to each participant to decide individually: True or False?

Both the winner and the loser receive a typical Ghent prize! Along the way, every participant also gets to enjoy a delicious sweet local treat.

An unforgettable experience full of fun, friendly competition, and fascinating facts about Ghent!

This city tour is organised and led by Charlie Tours lasts approximately 2 hours.

4. City tour (English): 1000 years Ghent in 100 minutes (4 June, 6pm) - €20

A walk through time featuring all the highlights of Ghent. A city with a glorious past, but also a “wise” (in the Ghent sense: quirky and spirited) present.

The tour starts at the city's birthplace, the Bisdomplein. During this walk, we discover what makes a city and how Ghent grew into one. By reading the stones of the buildings and façades, we uncover the city’s history. We briefly visit the cathedral (if possible). We take a tour through the “Kuip” of Ghent (the historic city center). We pause at the main buildings from Sint-Baafsplein (the Square of Powers) to the Vrijdagmarkt (the People’s Square). Of course, we also stroll along the Graslei, Ghent’s old harbor.

Contemporary Ghent is not forgotten, including the City Pavilion that reflects the past, the artworks on the Korenmarkt, and the typical Ghent products and characteristics.

In short, highly recommended for anyone who does not yet know Ghent and its inhabitants!

This city walk is organised and led by GANDANTE lasts approximately 1.5 hours.

5. City tour (English): Mighty High heels (4 June, 8pm) - €20

On the facade of the house of the ‘Crowned Heads’, we see only men depicted. Important women were not given a place among the powerful men. The female rulers disappeared into the folds of history. During this tour they will revive.  We meet the bold Judith, the crowd favorite Mary of Burgundy, the businesswoman Margaret of Constantinople, the marketing guru Margaret of York, the crazy or not crazy Johanna, the Minister of Finance Isabella of Portugal and the diplomat Margaret of Austria. These and other monarchs could do much more than embroider and dance, they left their signature on the history of Flanders.

Also curious about the role of these powerful women? You don't have to put on high heels to follow their trail, a pair of comfortable shoes will do.

This city tour is organised and led by Gentse Gidsen and lasts approximately 2 hours.
