A participatory partnership for prevention of sexual violence against transmigrants in Morocco

OBJECTIVES

To research sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) against trans-migrants in Morocco who aimed or are still aiming at moving on to Europe, in a participatory way
To raise awareness about SGBV against trans-migrants among different Moroccan and European stakeholders and the prevention needs and possibilities
To empower trans-migrants in preventing SGBV

METHODS

Community-based Participatory Research
Socio-ecological framework on violence
Desirable Prevention framework on prevention
In-depth interviews & focus groups

ACTIVITIES

Setting-up of a multi-stakeholder Community Advisory Board for continuous participation
Recruitment & training of Community Researchers
Fieldwork research & analysis
Awareness raising & dissemination of research results
Formulation of policy and practice recommendations

EXPECTED RESULTS

Training and collaboration of 10 Community Researchers.
Establishment of a Community Advisory Board (CAB) consisting of community researchers, intermediary organizations & services, local & regional authorities and researchers. This CAB is involved in the questionnaire design; in the interpretation of the results; in the development, pilot-testing, finalization and dissemination of the tool; in the final European Seminar and in awareness raising.
Fieldwork research and report on sexual health, SGBV and SGBV prevention.
Two seminars: one in Morocco and one in Belgium
Publications: one book and several articles aimed at different stakeholders
Agenda setting for future research & action
