International Implementation of the Sensoa Flag System
With the Flag System, you can:
- Objectively assess sexual behavior of children, adolescents, and adults.
- Discuss sexual behavior with those involved and other professionals.
- Coordinate better within your team regarding the (pedagogical) steps to take.
- As a manager, develop a vision and policy on sexual health within your organization.
The Flag System helps you arrive at a well-considered response by applying 6 criteria to a specific situation. This serves as a counterbalance to emotional or panicked reactions or indifference.
The Sensoa Flag System is a translation of het Sensoa Vlaggensysteem that is being rolled out internationally by the International Center for Reproductive Health (ICRH) at Ghent University. ICRH is responsible for the follow-up and further development of the Flag System outside Flanders and Brussels, in close collaboration with Sensoa.
- For organizations in Flanders and Brussels that want to implement the Flag System, more information can be found on the Dutch page: Het Sensoa Vlaggensysteem
- For international use and English-language implementation, refer to: The Sensoa Flag System
For questions regarding international use, ICRH can be contacted directly. Sensoa remains the point of contact for organizations within Flanders and Brussels.
Flag System e-learning
To support organizations internationally in using the Flag System, ICRH is currently developing an English-language e-learning module. This module is partly based on Sensoa's existing Dutch e-learning and provides practical tools for working with the Flag System.
The English-language e-learning will be piloted in the spring of 2025 by international partners of ICRH. Afterwards, the module will be made available via this webpage. The e-learning serves as a solid foundation for organizations to understand and apply the Flag System.
Workshops and Trainers
While the e-learning provides a good starting point, a workshop is often essential to fully master the Flag System and successfully implement it in your organization. If you are looking for a trainer to train groups in your region and language, you can consult the list of local trainers trained in the Sensoa Flag System.
- Trainers list: Coming soon.
- Important: Financial arrangements must be made directly with the trainer. Sensoa or ICRH cannot be held responsible for the financial agreements or the quality of the training.
- For training in Flanders: Explicit consent from Sensoa is required.
Supporting Tools and Materials
In addition to the e-learning, the Flag System offers supporting materials such as the Tips & Tricks Guide and a standardized questionnaire to evaluate the impact of the Flag System within organizations.
Using the Flag System in Every Organization
Using the Flag System in your organization can be challenging. Cultural adaptations may be necessary. As a result, Sensoa requested a Tips & Tricks guide to help organizations address issues and challenges when tailoring the Flag System to their organization's needs and culture.
- More information can be found here: Tips & Tricks Guide
- Or download the guide: PDF guide.
Improving the Implementation of the Flag System
In addition to the guide, a measuring instrument was also requested, in the form of a standardized questionnaire, to help organizations evaluate to what extent individuals understand sexual transgressive behavior and what attitudes and beliefs they hold. Based on this evaluation, organizations can determine whether additional training or intervention, such as the Flag System, is needed.
- More information can be found here: Questionnaire
- Or download the questionnaire: PDF questionnaire.
